Denim Day Campaign April 26th

Developed to encourage peace over violence, the Denim Day campaign raises awareness to catcalling and other forms of sexual assault experienced in public. The campaign asks people to wear denim as a display of advocacy and unity for those who have been victimized through sexual assault.

The movement was founded almost 21 years ago, when the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction after the victim was reported wearing tight denim jeans. It was decided that she must have helped them remove her jeans due to their tightness, and overall consented. The following day the women in the Italian Parliament wore denim to work in solidarity with the victim. The campaign is designed to draw attention to the complete injustice of the case, and how the clothing a victim is wearing does not determine the severity of the case.

We would like to invite other students to wear and display denim around campus to show their support for sexual assault victims around the world.
